Splendour
The voyage
Three flat decks across twenty metres, drawn from 1920s American pleasure yachts.
Splendour was built on the shore at Ara Beach in South Sulawesi, where Indonesian boatbuilding started, and she is the only vessel in this fleet that came from a drawing of what we actually wanted rather than from a broker's list. Her lines come from the American pleasure yachts of the 1920s, which were designed for cruising rather than racing, and it shows in the proportions: three flat decks across twenty metres, so a family of nine has three separate places to be instead of one crowded one. Three cabins, contemporary interiors, warm materials that handle salt and bare feet. Her water is Komodo National Park, and the itinerary is built around slow days rather than a checklist: Sebayur in the morning, the sandbank for lunch, Shot Gun when the current is right. Everything aboard is there because someone decided it should be. Nothing is there because it looked good in a brochure.

Cabins and facilities
Spaces
A 20 metre yacht in ironwood and teak, built in Sulawesi in 2018 on the lines of a 1920s American cruiser. Three decks, three cabins, six crew, and batteries so the nights stay silent. Here is how she is arranged.

The Cabins
Three cabins, and the stars
A master cabin in the bow with its own bathroom. Two cocoon cabins behind it, compact by design, one bathroom shared between them. All air conditioned. The back lounge makes up as an open bed for two who would rather sleep under the stars.

Upper Deck
Nothing between you and the horizon
Most of the top deck lives under a shade sail: deckchairs, loungers, beanbags, a table and, improbably, a garden. By day it is where the sun is. By night it is wherever the evening decides to go.

Saloon & Lounge
Inside, outside, hard to say which
One open plan deck where the kitchen bar, the dining saloon and the back lounge run into each other without a door in sight. A front lounge for the quiet ones. Two speakers for the rest.

Dining on Board
From the galley
A chef and an open kitchen bar, so dinner is watched as much as waited for. Breakfast when you surface, lunch at anchor, dinner on the deck with the lights down and the stars up. The butler keeps the glasses from emptying.

Quiet Nights
The generator sleeps too
Batteries run the boat after dark, so the machinery goes quiet and stays that way. No hum under the bunk, no diesel on the breeze. What you hear at anchor is water on the hull and not much else.

Swim Deck & Water Toys
Out, and back
A swim deck at the waterline with a freshwater shower waiting. Eight snorkel sets, a double paddleboard, two wakeboards and two surfboards. A tender for eight with 40 horsepower to run you to the reef and, eventually, back.

Beachside Escapes
Lunch, moved ashore
There is a picnic set on board for a reason. The tender drops you on an empty beach, the crew unpacks lunch, and a barbecue follows when the mood calls for it. No other guests. No closing time.
