The voyage

Explorer class, steel hulled, and the only ship here with fixed departures.

Aqua Blu is the only vessel in this fleet not made of wood. She is a sixty metre steel explorer, rebuilt as an expedition ship, and the difference shows in what she will do in weather that sends a phinisi back to anchor. Her own water is Raja Ampat, Komodo, the Spice Islands, and our voyages reach Amazon, Mekong, Galápagos and Indonesia. Diving is run properly from aboard, with the platform and the gear a hull this size can carry. Everything about her is built for range and schedule rather than for the photograph of the sails going up.

Cabins and facilities

Spaces

A 60 metre explorer yacht that began life as a British naval survey ship, HMS Beagle, and was rebuilt in 2019 by a Dutch designer for East Indonesia. Five decks, fifteen cabins, thirty guests, thirty crew. Here is how she is arranged.

The Cabins

The Cabins

Fifteen cabins, thirty guests

Fifteen cabins, each designed on its own, each for two. King bed or twins, a walk in rain shower, organic bath things, a Nespresso machine and a safe. Two pairs connect for families. Priced in three categories, none of them an afterthought.

Sun Deck & Bridge Deck

Sun Deck & Bridge Deck

Nothing between you and the horizon

A sun deck with a wraparound sofa for sunset cocktails and the canapés that come with them. One deck down, an outdoor jacuzzi, lounge beds and a workout zone in the open air. Zero speed stabilisers keep the water in the jacuzzi.

Sky Lounge Bar & Library

Sky Lounge Bar & Library

For the hours between excursions

A bar on the forecastle deck, a library and TV room beside it for the quiet ones, and an alfresco dining area for meals that would rather be outside. Downstairs, a dining room and salon in brass and ivory.

Dining on Board

Dining on Board

From the galley

A menu of 160 recipes from an Australian chef, built around the spice route: 48 hour short rib rendang, Balinese suckling pig, handline caught fish with sambal. Cooking demonstrations on board, market visits ashore, and everything from kosher to vegan covered.

Excursions & Water

Excursions & Water

Out, and back, twice a day

Two excursions a day, led by guides who know the region: snorkelling and diving in the Coral Triangle, kayaks and paddleboards for the lagoons, hikes over active volcanoes, forts for sundowners. Whale sharks when the season allows. The ship moves on overnight.

Spa & Jacuzzi

Spa & Jacuzzi

Indoors or out

An indoor spa on the bridge deck for treatments between landings, an outdoor jacuzzi a few steps away for afterwards, and an open air workout zone for anyone who feels they should. The order is yours.
