Ikan Kayu on Splendour
The voyage
Six cabins, thirteen guests, based in Labuan Bajo. Komodo, and only Komodo.
Ikan Kayu does one thing and does not pretend otherwise. She is based in Labuan Bajo, an hour from the park boundary, which means your charter starts on the water rather than on a repositioning leg. Six cabins, thirteen guests, thirty two metres of hand built wooden hull with rustic finishes and enough deck and saloon space that a group of thirteen can spread out instead of queueing. The range is Komodo National Park, full stop. No Raja Ampat, no Banda Sea, no long crossings. What that buys is the arithmetic: split thirteen ways, this is the least expensive whole boat charter in the fleet, and the money goes into days at Sebayur and Shot Gun and the sandbanks rather than into fuel spent getting there. For a family group or a set of friends who want the park properly and do not need the boat to be the event, she is the obvious choice.

Cabins and facilities
Spaces
A 32 metre phinisi, hand built in the traditional style, with five cabins for ten guests and a crew of nine. She sails Komodo and East Sumbawa and nowhere else, which is the point. Here is how she is arranged.

The Cabins
Five cabins, ten guests
Five cabins with double beds, every one air conditioned, en suite and facing the sea. The master and three doubles on the main deck, one double up top with the better view. Two more guests fit if the group insists.

Outdoor Decks
Nothing between you and the horizon
Open deck on two levels, main and upper. Mornings for the crossing, afternoons at anchor, evenings for whatever the sky is doing. Room for ten to spread out without anyone counting. Pick a level. Change your mind later.

Dining on Board
From the galley
All meals cooked on board, tea and coffee whenever, the table set wherever the breeze is kindest. Lunch between swims. Snacks appear between them. Dinner when the anchor is down and the light has gone soft.

Water Toys & Tender
Out, and back
Paddleboards for the quiet hours, a banana boat and a beach ball for the loud ones. A 5.5 metre speedboat tender with 85 horsepower to get you to the sandbank first and, eventually, back.

Snorkelling & Diving
Below the surface
Snorkelling gear for everyone, every day. For certified divers, a guide and tanks come with the charter and the rest of the kit can be arranged. Komodo's longest reef is at Manta Point, and the mantas know it.
