Samara I
The voyage
Twelve guests, five cabins, solar powered. Raja Ampat, Komodo, Banda Sea.
Samara I is the bigger of a pair. Where Samara II takes eight, this one takes twelve across five en suite cabins on a twenty seven metre hull, and where Samara II works Komodo and Raja Ampat, this one adds the Banda Sea, which means longer passages and reefs that see almost no traffic. Both run solar. On a boat this size that is the difference between hearing a generator all night and hearing nothing, and it is the reason these two sit slightly apart from the rest of the fleet. The decks are open and generous for the length. Paddleboards and dive gear live aboard rather than being brought out for photographs. For a family group of twelve who want range as well as quiet, she is the one of the pair to take.

Cabins and facilities
Spaces
A 27 metre phinisi in teak and ironwood, built in 2016 and sized for a family or two. Five cabins, twelve guests, six crew, and every cabin with its own bathroom. Here is how she is arranged.

The Cabins
Five cabins, twelve guests
Five en suite cabins, air conditioned, each named for a Komodo island. Kelor and Kanawa up top with queen beds and sea views, Padar on the main deck, Komodo and Rinca below with a queen and a bunk apiece. The children get the bunks.

Outdoor Decks
Nothing between you and the horizon
Open air on the main deck and the deck above it, with a shaded foredeck for the crossing between islands. Seats that face the water, views nobody built in front of. Pick a level. Change your mind later.

Indoor Lounge & Open Kitchen
Where the cooking happens in view
An indoor lounge built around an open kitchen, so the meal starts before it reaches the table and the cook is part of the conversation. Starlink reaches the boat, so the office can reach you. Whether you answer is another matter.

Dining on Board
From the galley
Three meals a day, an afternoon coffee break between them, and the menu adjusted for whoever cannot eat what. Breakfast after the first swim. Dinner at anchor, the day's photographs already taken by someone else.

Snorkelling & Water Toys
Out, and back
Snorkelling gear and paddleboards on board, a 6.2 metre tender to get you to the reef, and a local guide who knows where the mantas gather. Komodo's dragons are a short walk from the beach. The guide goes first.

Beachside Escapes
Dinner, moved ashore
One evening, on stays of three nights or more, dinner leaves the boat. The crew sets a table on the sand, and the only other guests are the ones you brought. No closing time. Sand comes home with you.
