Mutiara Laut
The voyage
A two masted schooner, European in line and Indonesian in build.
Mutiara Laut is not a phinisi. She is a two masted schooner, drawn from the European yachts of the last century and built in Indonesia, and the difference is one you feel rather than read. A schooner rig sails closer to the wind and holds a steadier line under canvas, which on a long crossing means the boat is working rather than motoring. Her name means Pearl of the Sea. Forty six metres, seven cabins, fourteen guests, teak decks wide enough to walk and dine on, and an open air table that gets used for most meals. Her range takes in Raja Ampat and Komodo, but the passage worth taking is east into the Spice Islands, along the routes that brought European hulls to this water in the first place. On that stretch the rig and the history are the same story, which is not something the rest of the fleet can offer.

Cabins and facilities
Spaces
A 46 metre schooner on 18th century North Atlantic lines, built by Indonesian hands and sailed under seven sails. Seven cabins, fifteen guests, and wide teak decks for the hours in between. Here is how she is arranged.

The Cabins
Seven cabins, fifteen guests
Seven cabins: a master suite, two doubles and four forward cabins. The master takes the main deck, 18 sqm, a king bed, its own bathroom and a private terrace over the water. The others sit below, calm and warmly lit.

Teak Decks
Nothing between you and the horizon
Wide teak decks under two masts and seven sails, which is where the day happens. Room to sunbathe, room to dine, breeze in both. When the sails go up she makes nine knots in near silence, and the engine takes the afternoon off.

Indoor Lounge
For the hottest hour, and after dark
Calm interiors, warm lighting and air conditioning for when the sun peaks. Movie nights on deck when the children win the vote, cocktails at sunset when the adults do. Nobody will hurry you to bed.

Dining on Board
From the galley
Local flavours and the international classics, cooked from the freshest local ingredients and served wherever the evening lands. Barefoot barbecues on a beach one night, a long table under the stars the next. Zero single use plastic in either.

Wellness
Serenity at sea, on request
Sunrise yoga on deck, a massage from a proper spa menu, and the sea breeze as the default setting. Beach clean ups on island visits count as wellness too, if you join them. Reef safe products throughout, so the ocean gets the same treatment.

Diving & Water Toys
Out, and back
Diving and snorkelling gear on board for Raja Ampat and Komodo, the two places divers argue about. Tenders to run you to the reef and, eventually, back. The watersports kit comes out when the anchor is down.

Beachside Escapes
Dinner, moved ashore
Beach picnics by day, a private bonfire by night, dinner on the sand with the stars for a ceiling. The crew sets it up. You walk down from the water. No other guests. No closing time.
