Jakaré
The voyage
Five cabins, sold whole or singly, with a French and English speaking instructor.
Jakaré is one of two vessels here you can board without chartering the whole thing. Five cabins, twelve guests, and you can take a single cabin on a voyage other people are also on, which for a couple who dive is a different proposition entirely from buying a boat for a week. She was built at Tanahberu in South Sulawesi between 2015 and 2017, and the diving is run from aboard by an instructor who works in French as well as English, with local guides who know which sites are worth the current on a given day. The water is the Coral Triangle, which holds more marine species than anywhere else on earth, and the itinerary bends to what the group wants rather than to a fixed route. There is yoga on the top deck in the mornings for those who want it and nothing at all for those who do not.

Cabins and facilities
Spaces
A 35 metre two masted phinisi, built in Tanah Beru between 2015 and 2017 with wooden pegs and no nails. Five cabins, ten guests, and a dive centre where the foredeck would normally be. Here is how she is arranged.

The Cabins
Five cabins, ten guests
Five en suite cabins, air conditioned, with room to put things away. Banggai 1 and 2 forward, two singles each. Lotus 1 and 2 amidships, a double and a single. Dewi Sri aft, a double and a private deck that steps into the sea.

Sun Deck
Nothing between you and the horizon
No superstructure means the upper deck is one long solarium. Yoga at sunrise, nothing in particular at noon, the sunset from the best seat on the boat. After dark the bats come out over the water. Stay up for them.

Lounge & Rear Deck
For the hours between dives
A shaded rear deck with bean bags for reading and naps, a lounge beside the dining table, and a private deck at the stern at sea level, where swimming means stepping off. Hot water in every shower afterwards.

Dining on Board
From the galley
The table sits under shade on the main deck aft with a 360 degree view. The chef moves between Indonesian classics and international plates and keeps vegetarians fed. The bar keeps the wine and cocktails at sensible prices.

Dive Centre
Before breakfast, if you like
A dive centre on the foredeck with Aqualung gear, Bauer compressors, Nitrox, and an instructor who briefs in French and English. Three dives a day, night dives when the site allows, the first before breakfast for those who are up.

Water Toys & Tenders
Out, and back
Two kayaks, a paddleboard and a wakeboard for the surface, snorkelling kit for everyone else. Two tenders, a 6 metre RIB with 100 horsepower and a smaller rigid boat, so divers and snorkellers can go different ways and both come back.
