Padar Island, a pristine island in the Lintah straight, is located between Rinca and Komodo islands. Steep hills, breathtaking landscapes, and gigantic bays make it a true “Neverland”. The many cliffs are home to sea eagles gently flying around the island. The crystal clear waters surrounding the island and the many pink beaches give this island a truly unique atmosphere. Padar is among our favorite islands for its sunset or sunrise trek with its magnificent views over Komodo National Park and ever-changing spectacular sky.
Located west of the Komodo islands, Manta Point is home to the longest reef in the National Park, and its shallow dive and snorkeling sites. Manta Rays gather all year long, making it the perfect place to observe these gentle giants dancing in the crystal-clear waters. These magnificent creatures can grow up to 6m wide and more than 1 ton are harmless to humans and will be a once in a lifetime experience.
Taka Makassar, The Paradise Sandbank, is a mix of white and pink sand surrounded by azure water and thriving reefs. A postcard-perfect place to relax and admire the surrounding landscapes.
Pink Beach is probably one of the most famous beaches in the world, but Komodo National Park is home to a couple of pink beaches.
The pink hue comes from tiny pieces of red coral from the surrounding reef. Located on the shore of Komodo island, Pink Beach offers stunning views surrounded by breathtaking landscapes.
Komodo Island is the biggest island in Komodo National Park. Named after the giant lizard living in its hills, the island is 390 km2 and located at the western corner of the park. Less visited than Rinca due to its remoteness, the dragons thrive, with an estimated population of 1000, Sumba deers, water buffalos, wild horses, and many different snake and bird species. Mount Satalibo is the highest point of Komodo at 730 meters high. Komodo island has a village that is mainly sustained by fishing and safely guiding people to visit the dragons.
GILI LAWA DARAT
Gili Lawa Darat has a large, almost closed-off bay located in the heart of Komodo island. Highly protected from the swell and winds, it is perfect for water sports such as kayaking and stand-up paddle. Translated as “the island close to the land,” it is one of our favorite spots in the park.
The island of Gili Lawa Darat offers a magnificent trek with a panoramic view of the surrounding islands of Komodo National Park. It is one of our favorite places in the park.
