Millennials’ Mortgages Are Going to the Pooches

According to a recent survey conducted by Harris Poll on behalf of SunTrust Mortgage, 33% of millennial homebuyers cited their furry friends as the primary reason for buying a home, outranking even marriage and children.

There are several reasons for this trend, including the fact that millennials love dogs and view pet ownership as a way to prepare for future adult responsibilities. Additionally, this health-conscious generation is more willing to spend money on their pets’ well-being, which contributes to the growing trend of moving into houses for a beloved pet’s sake.

This trend is not going away anytime soon, with the SunTrust Mortgage survey 42% of millennials who have never purchased a home stating that their pet would be a key factor in any future home buying decisions.

So, it seems that the neighborhood is going to the dogs and sure, big yards are great, but what about a built-in dog-washing station next to your garage?
