Skills Upgrade for Single Mothers of Idris Royhana Orphanage

On Sunday, October 20, 2024, OXO once again demonstrated its commitment to community development by hosting a meaningful Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative at OXO The Factory. This time, OXO welcomed 15 participants from the Idris Royhana Orphanage in Jimbaran for a special Candle and Jamu Making Workshop, a unique blend of creativity, tradition, and skill-building. The event wasn’t just about having fun; it was about giving participants the tools they need to explore new, sustainable income opportunities.

A Day of Crafting and Learning

The day kicked off with a sense of excitement in the air as the participants gathered for two enriching workshops. First up was the Candle Making Workshop, where participants got hands-on experience in the art of candle crafting. They learned not just the basics of candle making but also how creativity can turn this skill into a viable source of income.

Next came the Jamu Making Workshop, where participants were introduced to the world of Jamu, Indonesia’s traditional herbal drink. This workshop was not only empowering participants with practical knowledge that could be used to create and sell their own Jamu, but also a homage to Indonesia’s culture and heritage.

Wayan Surawan, Director of OXO Hospitality Management, emphasized the impact of the program:

“Through OXO’s CSR Initiative, we aim to deliver programs that truly impacts the economic empowerment of the communities in need. I hope that from the workshops conducted today, the single mothers gain valuable skills that can increase their income. Moreover, it is also my hope that this kind of initiatives can inspire other companies to do the same.”

The atmosphere throughout the day was filled with curiosity, joy, and a sense of collaboration. For many, it was their first time participating in such activities, and the enthusiasm in the room was contagious. By the end of the workshops, each participant had not only gained new skills but also a new sense of confidence.

Ananda Putra, OXO Sustainability Manager, highlighted the long-term vision of the program:

“This initiative is not only aimed to create a new alternative income for the participants, but we want it to be a sustainable increase for their income over time.”

Voices of Gratitude and Inspiration

The single mothers were actively engaged throughout the workshop, learning every single step of the way and never shy in asking questions to the trainers. Here’s what Ibu Idris Royhana, the head of the orphanage, has to say about her experience from the workshops:

“We are very grateful to be involved in OXO’s CSR initiative. Our orphanage is currently home to 25 single mothers, and close to 40 children. It means a lot to our community to gain the skills necessary to be able to increase our income. We not only gain the knowledge in candle making and jamu making, but we also feel empowered from the workshop.”

Building Skills for a Brighter Future

The skills workshops were more than just a day of learning; it was a day of planting seeds for future growth. By providing the single mothers with skills in candle making and Jamu creation, the initiative ensured that they unlock new pathways for economic empowerment. These are practical, sustainable skills that participants can now use to generate income and improve their quality of life—aligning perfectly with OXO’s mission to create a meaningful difference and create true success for all.

The Candle and Jamu Making Workshop exemplifies OXO’s belief in building stronger, more resilient communities by equipping people with skills that can be carried forward long after the workshop ends. As we continue to invest in CSR initiatives, we are also building a legacy of social responsibility that contributes to the overall well-being of local communities.

Looking Ahead: #BuildTomorrowToday

OXO’s CSR initiatives are about more than just short-term giving. They represent a long-term investment in the people and communities that OXO serves. The Candle and Jamu Making Workshop is just one of many initiatives that align with OXO’s vision to #BuildTomorrowToday—a future where communities are empowered to create better livelihoods and contribute to a healthier planet.

By bridging the gap between opportunity and skill, we aim to create a brighter, more sustainable future for all. While we’re proud of what we’ve accomplished, it is only the beginning and we look forward to continuing to make a positive impact on the lives of those around us. Together, we can create a better life, save the planet, and truly #BuildTomorrowToday.
